Vuillaume St Cecile violin
$150,000.00
No. 454 dated 1847.
Description
The St Cecile instruments were produced in the Vuillaume workshop. Some were produced in the white by Nicolas Vuillaume, others by Silvestre, however they were finished, varnished, and tonally adjusted by Jean Baptise Vuillaume. This violin is numbered 454 and is the best example we have seen. The label is original. The previous owner purchased the violin from Walter Hamma in Stuttgart, and it has been in our long-term ownership for professional use. Much admired by a number of Australian connoisseurs of fine instruments including the late John Curro, this violin was set up by Helge Grawert more than 30 years ago, and has wound-gut Corelli strings.
