Silver mounted ebony frog with Parisian eyes, original lapping, octagonal stick stamped W.D.WATSON.LONDON., 79.9 grams

Description

William David (Bill) Watson (1930 – 2018) was apprenticed at W. E. Hill & Sons’ Hanwell workshops in 1945 as the last bowmaker to be trained by William Charles Retford.  As I predicted in the late 1990s, the market has judged his work greater than that of his master.  This bow was made for an amateur cellist in the 1970s, and is in very good original condition.  Ill health has resulted in it no longer being needed, hence it has been consigned for sale.  Bill Watson’s bows are noted for their strength, flexibility and projection, and their remarkable consistency.
