W. E. Hill & Sons cello bow by Watson

W. E. Hill & Sons cello bow by Watson

$11,000.00

Silver mounted ebony frog also by Watson, with Parisian eye, correctly fitted to the octagonal stick (with imitation whalebone lapping) made by Watson in 1959 and stamped W. E. HILL & SONS.  80.7 grams

Description

The octagonal stick betrays all the aesthetic hallmarks and playing characteristics of the work of the late William David (Bill) Watson (1930 – 2018).  Bows made by Bill Watson are preferred by many professionals in the UK, Australia and the USA to fine French bows.  This bow is in excellent condition and is all original apart from the imitation whalebone lapping.  In the long-term ownership of a professional cellist who has a fleet of fine bows, it is being offered for sale to the next custodian.  It has been freshly rehaired and has a new thumb leather since the photographs were made.
