W. E. Hill & Sons violin bow by Bishop

W. E. Hill & Sons violin bow by Bishop

Note – pinned head.  An excellent playing bow at an inexpensive price.

Description

A fully stamped violin bow from the Hill workshops made by Edgar Bishop in 1926, octagonal stick, silver mounted ebony frog with Parisean eyes, this bow is in good original condition apart from the silver wire lapping replacing the original whalebone at some point in the bow’s life, and the pinned head.  Purchased from A. E. Smith in the 1950s along with a J. B. Vuillaume violin, the bow remained in the original family until it was lent to a local colleague in 2013 who dropped it.  We bought the damaged bow, and Michael Taylor (founding bowmaker at Ealing Strings in London) repaired it, pinning the head.  The bow remained in our ownership for professional use and also for use as a loan bow for customers entrusting us with their fine bows for rehair.
