W. E. Hill & Sons violin bow by Stagg
$11,000.00
Chased gold mounted plain ebony frog mounted in the Hill tradition without metal liner, original imitation whalebone lapping, octagonal stick made by John William Stagg (b.1954) in 1980 and stamped W. E. HILL & SONS, 66.4 grams
Description
A fine example of a fully stamped bow from the relocated Hill workshops at Havenfields, Great Missenden. This bow was bought new from Hills by the previous owner, a keen amateur, for use as his third bow. He died 20 years ago, and as such, this bow is in very good entirely original condition with almost no wear. Although heavy, it is finely balanced, and was Sally-Ann’s choice of bow as soloist on the QPAC Concert Hall stage performing Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s Concerto Funebre with Camerata on 3 December 2017.
